Languages
English and 29 other languages, in either direction.
trKey translates with two engines. The first is on by default and the second is an optional extra.
- Offline. Firefox's open-source translation models, made by Mozilla. They run on your phone. Each language is downloaded once, and after that it works without internet. Nothing you type leaves the phone, unless you choose to send it.
- Google (optional). You can turn on Google's ML Kit in Settings, under Translate. Google receives some usage data, and its code writes the text you translate to the phone's system log. trKey uses it only for languages that the offline models do not cover.

Sizes are the download for one language, both directions with English. English is built in.
Good to know
- Between two other languages. The offline engine goes through English, so a pair such as Arabic to French takes two steps and downloads both languages.
- Quality varies. The offline models are small and fast, and the translations are automatic. They are best on everyday sentences. Check anything important.
- Irish and Maltese have no offline model, so they need the optional Google engine.
- Keyboard layouts. A language marked Not yet has no layout of its own, so for now type it with another layout, such as English. More layouts will follow.
Not available yet
Kurdish (Sorani and Kurmanji), Somali, Amharic, and Nepali are not supported yet. Neither engine translates them, and the open translation models we have found are not good enough. We are looking for better ones.
